This Friday, November 3, 7 pm, we are opening the exhibition, releasing two new multiples, and launching the MADE IN CHINA exhibition series, which will unfold intensively throughout November and December, culminating in a retrospective marking the 10th anniversary of MADE IN CHINA.
The first exhibition in your favorite gallery’s program features the international guest appearance of artist duo Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair and Wolfgang Obermair, who will present the multiples M#43 and M#44.
OLGA VISITS HER MOTHER is a reproduction of a pre-war piece by Wolfgang, revisited here as a multiple—originating from a time when art was still unmonumental and playful. Its elements form a lightweight, tension-based structure that connects walls and ceilings in virtually any space: a broomstick supports a plastic cup held in place by an elastic band. Recreating this work is a gesture of self-empowerment—something anyone can do at home.
MADE IN CHINA is both an art project and a brand, exploring and implementing new methods of producing, promoting, and distributing art. It investigates the role, meaning, and potential of the artistic gesture within society, seeking more effective forms of artistic participation—whether within the art system, the broader societal context, or the modern economy.
Made in China intentionally crosses artistic boundaries, expanding into a sphere typically dominated by consumerism and profit-driven logic—emerging as a poetic disruption, a moment of non-conformity within an apparent social consensus, and a proposal for possible alternatives.
The project produces, promotes, and distributes affordable artworks in the form of series or multiples—created by leading Slovenian artists as well as invited international guests. These multiples form the foundation for broader exhibitions, events, and interventions within the Made in China framework.
Made in China artworks are meant to be sold and shared. We hope they find their way into homes and are given as thoughtful gifts. By purchasing a Made in China multiple, you are directly supporting artists and sustaining future Made in China projects—helping to spread art among people
