Wolfgang Obermair is a German-Austrian artist, curator, and lecturer based in Vienna. His multidisciplinary practice blends conceptual and spacial approaches with a strong interest in sculpture, drawing, performance, DIY culture, and collaborative formats. He studied painting and art education at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg, and completed a one-year scholarship in media art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. His work has been exhibited internationally in a variety of institutional and independent contexts.
Since over 20 years Obermair is engaged in the independent art scene: From 2001 to 2012, he curated exhibitions for kunstbunker – forum für zeitgenössische kunst in Nuremberg. Between 2012 and 2017, he was a member of the Vienna-based exhibition collective Schneiderei. Since 2017, he co-directs the independent artist-run space hoast with Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair.
